Package Delivery Text Scam

Overview

A text message claims a package couldn't be delivered due to an unpaid fee or incomplete address, with a link to a fake carrier site designed to steal payment card details.

How It Works

A text message claims a package couldn't be delivered because of a small unpaid fee or an incomplete address, impersonating a well-known carrier like USPS, FedEx, or UPS, and includes a link to "resolve" the issue. The link leads to a fake site styled to match the real carrier's branding, where the victim is prompted to enter payment card details to pay the small fee, which are then captured and can be used for larger unauthorized charges or sold to other scammers.

Red Flags
  • An unexpected text about a delivery problem or small unpaid fee.
  • The link goes to a domain that doesn't match the carrier's official website.
  • Request for full card details to pay a fee of just a dollar or two.
  • Poor grammar or a generic greeting instead of your name or tracking number.

How to Protect Yourself
  • Track packages directly through the retailer or carrier's official app or website.
  • Delivery carriers don't typically require a small fee by text message to redeliver a package.
  • Don't click links in unexpected delivery texts — go to the official site instead.
  • Forward suspicious delivery texts to 7726 (SPAM) to report them.
