Deepfake Celebrity Endorsement Scam

Overview

AI-generated video or audio shows a celebrity or public figure appearing to endorse an investment platform, giveaway, or product they have never actually endorsed, used to lend false credibility to a scam.

How It Works

Scammers use AI video and voice generation tools to create a fake but convincing clip of a well-known celebrity, news anchor, or business figure appearing to endorse a cryptocurrency platform, investment opportunity, or giveaway. The video is spread through social media ads or fake news articles, lending false credibility that pressures viewers to sign up and deposit money on a platform that has nothing to do with the celebrity and is really just designed to collect and keep victim deposits.

Red Flags
  • A celebrity appears to endorse an investment or giveaway only in an ad or shared video.
  • The celebrity's own official channels make no mention of the endorsement.
  • Slight glitches in lip-sync, unnatural blinking, or robotic-sounding audio.
  • The ad links to an unfamiliar trading platform or "double your money" giveaway.

How to Protect Yourself
  • Be skeptical of any celebrity "endorsement" for a financial product seen only in an ad or video.
  • Check the celebrity's own verified social accounts or official site for confirmation.
  • Look for subtle glitches in lip-sync, lighting, or audio that can reveal an AI fake.
  • Remember that real investment opportunities are never promoted through unsolicited video ads.
